America’s First College for Former Foster youth Will Open this Fall

Individuals who grow up in foster care typically have lower rates of college attendance and graduation — only 10% are expected to graduate from institutions of higher learning. Riverbend Center for Higher Education, located in Montgomery, West Virginia, is the first college to focus specifically on providing educational services to former foster youth. Riverbend staff will undergo training on trauma-informed care so they have a better understanding of the youth who will attend the school and how to meet their unique needs.  Continue reading
